Welcome to the igoplaymath family!

The ideas for this approach to teaching math in a conceptual experience began to percolate in the Fall of 2023, when I was approached by parents inquiring if I had materials that might assist their children to fill holes or gaps in their math education.

I am a Montessori teacher. A few years ago a friend and I created a K-6 math curriculum for a charter school which led to creating some visual lesson materials.
Fast forward a few more years, and with these questions from struggling parents, The Lord began to open my mind to the possibility of taking concepts and creating a step by step experience that would cover all, (or most) of the K-6 core requirements related to that concept, and put it in a linear experience. This would allow for gaps in understanding of the foundational math concepts to be enhanced and filled in.

Thus began this journey to create concept packets and cost effective Montessori materials to assist parents, teachers and mentors, on this amazing mathematical journey. And it is AMAZING! I have learned so much in the process and I hope it will be as beneficial to you.

This began as an experience that could be given to a child old enough to work through the materials independently. It is also very applicable to a younger child with the assistance of a parent or mentor, as far as their interest or age will allow. For the youngers, there is no need to force a finish as with age and
maturity, the subject will be brought back around.

In my experience, working through the practice activities until competence is achieved is invaluable, as with seeing, writing, feeling by drawing, discussing and hearing, so many more senses are used and the comprehension of a given concept is enhanced. The individual brain thrives on repetition and will come to
understand the material in a profound way. It has happened to me as I have worked the concepts on paper, then in the design phase. Feel free to be inspired with your own ideas for practice, to repeat or to mix practice ideas from other concepts. It all works!

I feel it a privilege to share this experience with you and look forward to the many “aha” moments, the beautiful sparkle in the eyes, the statements of, “Oh! Now I get it!” for you, that I have seen in using these materials so far.
